Server Quick Start Guide

Everything you need to know for your first shift as a server.

Before Your First Shift

Get Your Login

  1. Ask your manager for your login credentials
  2. Download the app on your phone (optional but helpful)
  3. Your login works on any restaurant device

Know Your Section

  • Check with your manager for your assigned tables
  • Tables appear highlighted in your section on the floor map

Your First Order (5 Steps)

Step 1: Start the Order

  1. Tap your assigned table on the floor map
  2. Or tap New Order and select the table
  3. Enter number of guests

Step 2: Add Items

  1. Tap menu categories (Appetizers, Entrees, etc.)
  2. Tap items to add them
  3. Select modifiers when prompted (temperature, sides, etc.)

Step 3: Handle Special Requests

  • Tap the item in the order
  • Tap Add Note
  • Type the special request
  • Tap Save

Step 4: Send to Kitchen

  1. Review the order
  2. Tap Send to Kitchen
  3. First course goes to kitchen immediately
  4. Hold items show "HOLD" status

Step 5: Confirm with Guest

  • Order number appears on screen
  • Tell guest their order is in

Taking Payment

When Guest is Ready

  1. Tap the table
  2. Tap Pay
  3. Choose payment method:

CardTap Card → Hand terminal to guest → Wait for approval
CashTap Cash → Enter amount received → Give change shown
SplitTap Split → Choose method → Process each payment

Adding Tips

  • Card tips: Guest adds on terminal
  • Cash tips: Keep cash tips, enter amount for records

Printing Receipt

  • Receipt prints automatically
  • Tap Reprint if needed
  • Email receipt: Ask for guest's email

Managing Your Tables

Table Status Colors

Quick Actions

From any table, tap to:

  • View current order
  • Add items
  • Send message to kitchen
  • Process payment
  • Transfer to another server

Voice Commands (Hey Maximus)

Say "Hey Maximus" then:

Say ThisDoes This
"Start order for table 5"Opens new order
"Add a cheeseburger"Adds item to current order
"Medium rare"Sets modifier

Common Situations

Guest Wants to Change Order

If not sent yet:

  1. Tap the item
  2. Tap Remove or modify

If already sent:

  1. Tap the item
  2. Tap 86 Item (manager may need to approve)
  3. Add replacement item
  4. Send new item to kitchen

Guest Has Allergy

  1. Items with allergens show warning icons
  2. Tap item to see full allergen info
  3. Add note: "ALLERGY - [allergen]"
  4. Kitchen sees highlighted warning

Need a Manager

  • Tap Call Manager (top right)
  • Or say "Hey Maximus, call manager"

Taking a Break

  1. Tell manager you're going on break
  2. Transfer tables if needed
  3. Your section stays visible

End of Shift

Close Out Tables

  1. All tables must be paid or transferred
  2. Process any remaining payments
  3. Print final tickets

Cash Out

  1. Tap End Shift or tell manager
  2. Count your cash drawer
  3. Report any discrepancies
  4. Clock out via time clock

Check Your Tips

  1. View tip summary for shift
  2. Cash tips: already collected
  3. Card tips: added to paycheck or tip out

Tips for Success

  1. Greet quickly - Check on new tables within 2 minutes
  2. Know the menu - Use the app to review items and allergens
  3. Communicate specials - Check 86'd items before recommending
  4. Stay organized - Use table colors to track timing
  5. Ask for help - Voice commands make multitasking easier

Quick Reference Card

Start order: Tap table → New Order → Add items → Send

Payment: Table → Pay → Select method → Complete

Voice: "Hey Maximus" + command

Emergency: Call Manager button (top right)
