Taking a New Order

This guide walks you through creating orders for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.

Quick Steps

  1. Select Order Type - Dine-in, Takeout, or Delivery
  2. Choose Table/Customer - Assign the order
  3. Add Items - Tap items from the menu
  4. Customize - Add modifiers and notes
  5. Review & Send - Confirm and send to kitchen

Step 1: Start a New Order

From the main screen:

  1. Tap "New Order" button (or press F1 if you have a keyboard)
  2. Select the order type:

Step 2: Assign the Order

For Dine-In

  1. Tap "Select Table"
  2. Choose the table number from the floor plan
  3. (Optional) Enter number of guests

For Takeout/Delivery

  1. Enter customer name (required)
  2. Enter phone number (for updates)
  3. For delivery: Enter delivery address

For Bar Tab

  1. Enter customer name
  2. Pre-authorize a card (swipe/tap to hold)

Step 3: Add Items

Using the Menu

  1. Tap a category (Appetizers, Entrees, Drinks, etc.)
  2. Tap the item you want to add
  3. Item appears in the cart on the right
  1. Tap the search bar (or press /)
  2. Type item name (e.g., "burger")
  3. Tap the item from results

Using Voice

Say: "Hey Maximus, add a [item] to the order"

Examples:

  • "Add a cheeseburger"
  • "Add two house salads"
  • "Add a Coke and a Sprite"

Step 4: Customize Items

Adding Modifiers

When you tap an item with modifiers:

  1. A modifier screen appears
  2. Select required options (e.g., temperature, side)
  3. Select optional add-ons (e.g., extra cheese)
  4. Tap "Add to Order"

Common Modifier Types

Adding Notes

For special requests:

  1. Tap the item in the cart
  2. Tap "Add Note"
  3. Type the request (e.g., "allergic to shellfish")
  4. Tap "Save"

Step 5: Review the Order

Before sending:

  1. Check all items are correct
  2. Verify modifiers and notes
  3. Confirm the table/customer

Making Changes

Step 6: Send to Kitchen

  1. Review the complete order
  2. Tap "Send to Kitchen" (or press Enter)
  3. Order appears on the Kitchen Display

Order Confirmation

You'll see:

  • Order number (e.g., #42)
  • Estimated time (e.g., "Ready in ~15 min")
  • Kitchen ticket preview

Multi-Course Dining

For fine dining with courses:

Adding Courses

  1. Add first course items
  2. Tap "Add Course" divider
  3. Add next course items
  4. Repeat for each course

Firing Courses

Kitchen will wait for your signal to start each course:

  1. Go to the order
  2. Tap "Fire Next Course"

Seat-Based Ordering

To track who ordered what:

  1. When adding items, tap "Assign Seat"
  2. Select seat number (1, 2, 3, etc.)
  3. At payment time, you can split by seat

Common Scenarios

"86'd" Item (Out of Stock)

If an item shows as 86'd (crossed out):

  1. It's unavailable - you can't add it
  2. Suggest alternatives to the guest
  3. The item will reappear when restocked

Allergen Alert

Allergy Safety

If a guest reports any food allergy, you must flag it on the order. The kitchen needs this information to prevent cross-contamination. Failing to flag allergies can result in a life-threatening reaction.

  1. Look for the allergen icon on menu items
  2. Tap to see ingredient details
  3. Add an allergy note to the order
  4. Kitchen will see a prominent allergy warning

Rush Order

For priority orders:

  1. Add all items to the cart
  2. Tap "Priority" before sending
  3. Order appears first on kitchen display

Troubleshooting

Order won't send

  1. Check spelling in search
  2. Try category browsing
  3. Item may be 86'd or not available at this location
  4. Ask manager if item should be added

Tips for Efficiency

Use voice commands during the rush -- saying "Hey Maximus, add two house salads" is faster than navigating through menus and lets you keep your eyes on the guest.

  1. Learn popular items - They're usually in "Favorites"
  2. Use voice during rush - Faster than tapping
  3. Pre-enter large orders - Add items as guests order
  4. Check modifiers early - Avoid kitchen callbacks
  5. Confirm allergies - Always double-check and note
