Divide checks by item, seat, amount, or number of people.

Split by Item

Each guest pays for specific items.

How To

  1. Open the check
  2. Tap "Split"
  3. Select "By Item"
  4. Drag items to separate checks (Check A, Check B, etc.)
  5. Tap "Done"
  6. Process each check separately

Tips

  • Shared items can be split (e.g., appetizer split 4 ways)
  • Tap item, then "Split Item" to divide

Split by Seat

If you assigned seats during ordering.

How To

  1. Open the check
  2. Tap "Split"
  3. Select "By Seat"
  4. Items automatically group by seat number
  5. Review and adjust if needed
  6. Process each seat's check

Requirements

Seat-Based Ordering

Assign seat numbers when taking orders and splitting checks becomes effortless. Items automatically group by seat, saving time at the end of the meal.


Equal Split

Divide the total evenly among a number of people.

How To

  1. Open the check
  2. Tap "Split"
  3. Select "Equal Split"
  4. Enter number of people (e.g., 4)
  5. System calculates each share
  6. Process each payment

Example

  • Total: $120.00
  • Split 4 ways: $30.00 each
  • Tax and service included in split

Custom Amount Split

Pay specific dollar amounts per person.

How To

  1. Open the check
  2. Tap "Split"
  3. Select "Custom"
  4. Enter first payment amount
  5. Process first payment
  6. Remaining balance shows for next payment
  7. Repeat until paid

Use Case

  • "I'll pay $50, you pay the rest"
  • Partial payments with gift card + cash

Processing Split Payments

After splitting:

  1. You'll see separate check cards
  2. Tap first check
  3. Process payment (card/cash)
  4. Return to split view
  5. Process next check
  6. Repeat until all paid

Different Payment Methods

Each split can use a different method:

  • Check A: Credit card
  • Check B: Cash
  • Check C: Apple Pay

Multiple Cards on One Check

Without creating full split:

  1. Open payment screen
  2. Tap "Multiple Cards"
  3. Enter first card amount
  4. Swipe first card
  5. Enter second card amount
  6. Swipe second card
  7. Continue as needed

Changing Splits

Before Payment

  • Tap "Edit Split" to rearrange
  • Drag items between checks
  • Merge checks back together

After Partial Payment

  • Cannot change items on paid checks
  • Can only modify unpaid portion

Handling Tips on Splits

Tip Per Check

Each guest adds tip to their check:

  1. Process their payment
  2. They add tip on terminal
  3. Tip goes with their payment

Single Tip on Original

To add one tip before splitting:

  1. Add tip to original check
  2. Split - tip divides proportionally

Auto-Gratuity

If auto-grat applies (large party):

  • Shows on each split proportionally
  • Cannot be removed without manager

Common Scenarios

"We want separate checks"

  1. Split by Item or by Seat
  2. Give each person their itemized check
  3. Process separately

"We'll split it evenly"

  1. Use Equal Split
  2. Tell them the per-person amount
  3. Collect cards/payments from each

"I'll pay for the appetizers, they'll pay the rest"

  1. Use Custom Amount
  2. Calculate appetizer total
  3. Process that amount first
  4. Process remainder second

"Can we each put $40 on cards and the rest cash?"

  1. Use Multiple Cards
  2. Run $40 on each card
  3. Collect remaining in cash

Troubleshooting

Items won't move between checks

  • Item may already be paid
  • May need to unsplit first, then re-split

Split amounts don't add up

Rounding

When splitting evenly, amounts are rounded to the nearest cent. A difference of one cent may appear on the last check to ensure the total matches exactly.

  • Verify tax is included

Guest changed mind after split

Before payment:

  1. Tap "Cancel Split"
  2. Start over

After partial payment:

  1. Cannot undo paid portions
  2. Adjust remaining splits as needed
