Sell and redeem gift cards and manage store credit.

Overview

Restaurant Revolution supports:

  • Physical gift cards - Scannable plastic cards
  • Digital gift cards - Email/SMS delivery with QR code
  • Store credit - From refunds or manual issuance
  • Multi-location - Balances work at any location

Selling Gift Cards

Physical Gift Cards

  1. Tap Gift Card > Sell New
  2. Scan the card barcode or enter manually
  3. Enter amount ($10 - $500)
  4. Customer pays any method
  5. Card is activated automatically
  6. Receipt prints with balance

Digital Gift Cards

  1. Tap Gift Card > Send Digital
  2. Select amount or preset ($25, $50, $100)
  3. Enter recipient:
    • Email address
    • Or phone number
  4. Add personal message (optional)
  5. Choose delivery:
    • Send now
    • Schedule for later (birthday, holiday)
  6. Customer pays
  7. Gift card sent to recipient

Checking Balance

Quick Balance Check

  1. Tap Gift Card > Check Balance
  2. Scan card or enter number
  3. Balance displays immediately

Customer Self-Service

Customers can check at:

  • Restaurant website
  • Customer app
  • Calling the restaurant
  • On their digital card (real-time)

Redeeming Gift Cards

Full Redemption

When order total ≤ gift card balance:

  1. Complete order
  2. Tap Pay > Gift Card
  3. Scan card or enter number
  4. Full amount applied
  5. Remaining balance (if any) shown on receipt

Partial Redemption

When order total > gift card balance:

  1. Complete order
  2. Tap Pay > Gift Card
  3. Scan card
  4. Balance applied to order
  5. Remaining due shown
  6. Customer pays balance with another method
  7. Receipt shows gift card amount used

Split Tender with Gift Card

Combine gift card with other payments:

Reloading Gift Cards

Add Value to Existing Card

  1. Tap Gift Card > Reload
  2. Scan existing card
  3. Current balance shown
  4. Enter reload amount
  5. Customer pays
  6. New balance confirmed

Store Credit

What is Store Credit?

Balance given to customer from:

  • Refund converted to credit
  • Manager comp/goodwill
  • Issue resolution

Issuing Store Credit

  1. Go to Gift Card > Issue Store Credit
  2. Enter customer (name/email/phone)
  3. Enter amount
  4. Select reason:
    • Refund conversion
    • Manager goodwill
    • Service recovery
    • Other (note required)
  5. Approve (manager PIN if required)
  6. Customer notified via email/SMS

Redeeming Store Credit

  1. At checkout, tap Pay > Store Credit
  2. Enter customer email or phone
  3. Available credit shown
  4. Apply to order
  5. Remaining credit (if any) stays on account

Multi-Location Support

Balance Sharing

Multi-Location

Gift card balances are shared across all restaurant locations. A card purchased at one location can be redeemed at any other.

Gift cards work at any location:

Card purchased: Downtown location
Card redeemed: Airport location
Balance: Shared across all locations

Reporting by Location

Managers can view:

  • Cards sold per location
  • Cards redeemed per location
  • Net gift card liability per location

Handling Issues

Card Not Working

  1. Verify card number is correct
  2. Check if card is activated
  3. Verify balance remaining
  4. If still failing:
    • Try manual entry
    • Contact manager

Lost Physical Card

  1. Customer provides proof of purchase
  2. Manager looks up by:
    • Original receipt
    • Card number (if known)
    • Purchase date/amount
  3. Can issue replacement or transfer balance

Lost Digital Card

  1. Customer provides email/phone
  2. Look up by delivery info
  3. Resend the digital card
  4. Or transfer to new email

Disputed Balance

  1. Look up transaction history
  2. Review all redemptions
  3. Show customer the activity
  4. Escalate to manager if needed

Watch for signs of gift card fraud: multiple high-value purchases, immediate redemption after purchase, or different people redeeming than purchasing. Alert a manager if anything seems unusual -- do not refuse service unless instructed.
