Table Sections

Manage your assigned section efficiently for better service and earnings.


Overview

Sections divide the restaurant floor into manageable areas:

Your section determines which tables you serve during your shift.


Your Section Assignment

How Sections Are Assigned

When you clock in:

  1. System checks the floor plan
  2. Manager has pre-assigned sections
  3. You're notified of your section
  4. Section appears on your Tables screen

Section Notification

You'll see your assignment:

  • On clock-in confirmation screen
  • In the Tables tab (your section highlighted)
  • Via voice: "Hey Maximus, what's my section?"

Viewing Your Section

On the POS

  1. Go to Tables screen
  2. Your section is highlighted in color
  3. Tap section name to filter to only your tables

Your section view shows:

Working Multiple Sections

Sometimes you may cover multiple sections:

When This Happens

  • Short-staffed shifts
  • Server sent home early
  • Covering breaks
  • Training new staff

Managing Multiple Sections

  1. Toggle between sections using tabs
  2. Use "My Tables" filter to see all assigned
  3. Prioritize by time seated (longest first)
  4. Ask for help if overwhelmed

Tips for Multi-Section Success

  • Keep moving efficiently between areas
  • Don't forget any tables
  • Communicate with kitchen about timing
  • Ask host to pace seating

Section Changes

Requesting a Change

If you need to change sections:

  1. Talk to your manager
  2. Explain reason (personal, medical, preference)
  3. Manager makes decision
  4. If approved, system updates your assignment

Mid-Shift Section Changes

When you're reassigned during shift:

  1. Manager updates in system
  2. You receive notification
  3. Your open tables transfer with you (or stay, per policy)
  4. Introduce yourself to new guests if tables stayed

Section Rotation

Some restaurants rotate sections:

Daily Rotation

  • Sections assigned on weekly schedule
  • Fairness across premium/slow sections
  • Posted in advance for planning

Shift-Based Rotation

  • Different section each shift
  • Opener gets section A, closer gets B
  • Based on shift patterns

Earning-Based Rotation

  • High earners may rotate to slower sections
  • Balances earning opportunity
  • Track your section history in My Schedule

Optimizing Your Section

Working Efficiently

  1. Learn your layout - Know where everything is
  2. Develop a pattern - Check tables in consistent order
  3. Use the system - Let notifications alert you
  4. Communicate - Tell kitchen when you're busy

Managing Covers

With Managers

  • Report issues early
  • Ask for help before you're buried
  • Update on VIP guests

With Other Servers

  • Offer help when you're slow
  • Ask for help when you're busy
  • Cover sections during breaks

Troubleshooting

Can't See My Section

  1. Refresh the Tables screen
  2. Check if you're clocked in
  3. Ask manager to verify assignment
  4. May need to re-clock in

Wrong Section Assigned

  1. Note the error
  2. Tell manager immediately
  3. Manager corrects in system
  4. Refresh your screen

Tables Missing from Section

  1. Check if table was moved to another section
  2. Verify floor plan hasn't changed
  3. Ask manager to verify layout
  4. Report if persistent issue
