Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Olympus aROS captures the "Hardware Freedom" philosophy. You don't need expensive proprietary terminals. You can use standard iPads, Android tablets, or even staff smartphones securely. The Device Trust protocol ensures that even personal devices can access the POS network safely.
Hardware Tiers
We classify devices into two categories:
-
Managed Devices (Company Owned):
- Locked down via MDM (Mobile Device Management).
- App runs in "Kiosk Mode" (cannot exit).
- Full system access (printers, intricate hardware settings).
-
Trusted BYOD (Personal):
- Staff personal phones or generic tablets.
- Runs as a standard app.
- Restricted permissions (cannot change system IP, etc.).
- Requires explicit Approval Token to join.
Enrollment Process
Step 1: Request Access (On Device)
- Download the Olympus POS app from the App Store/Play Store.
- On the login screen, tap "Enroll Device".
- The screen will display a Device Fingerprint and a QR Code.
Step 2: Approve Device (Manager)
- Log in to the Admin Dashboard > Hardware > Devices.
- You will see a "Pending Request" for the new device.
- Click Approve.
- Assign a Role: e.g., "Handheld POS", "KDS Screen", "Manager Tablet".
- Set a Trust Duration:
- Permanent: For store-owned tablets.
- Shift Only: For a temp worker using their own phone (access revoked after 12 hours).
Step 3: Pair
Once approved, the device screen will refresh and load the correct interface for its assigned role (e.g., if you assigned "KDS", it loads the Kitchen View).
Security Measures
- Zero-Trust Network: Even if a device is on the Wi-Fi, it cannot access the API or Database without a valid, active Device Certificate.
- Remote Wipe: Managers can click "Revoke" in the dashboard to instantly log out the device and wipe locally cached menu data.
