Menu Items & Categories

Create and organize your restaurant's menu.

Overview

Your menu is organized into:

  • Categories - Groups of related items (Appetizers, Entrees, Drinks)
  • Subcategories - Optional sub-groups (Burgers, Sandwiches, Salads)
  • Items - Individual menu offerings with pricing and modifiers

Managing Categories

Viewing Categories

  1. Go to Menu > Categories
  2. See all categories with item counts
  3. Drag to reorder display sequence

Creating a Category

  1. Click + Add Category
  2. Enter:
    • Name: "Appetizers"
    • Description: Optional description
    • Image: Upload category image (optional)
    • Display Order: Position in menu
  3. Click Save

Creating Menu Items

Basic Item Information

  1. Click + Add Item in a category
  2. Enter required fields:

Item Images

Upload high-quality images:

  • Recommended size: 800x600 pixels
  • Format: JPG or PNG
  • File size: Under 2MB
  • Tips: Good lighting, white background, actual portion

Mark all allergens present:

Mark dietary classifications:

Allergen Inheritance

Allergen Accuracy

Keep allergen data accurate and up to date. When modifiers add allergens (e.g., "Add peanut sauce"), the system automatically includes those allergens in the order alert. Incorrect allergen information can endanger guests with food allergies.

  • System tracks modifier allergens
  • Full allergen list shown on order
  • Kitchen alerted appropriately

Item Availability

Quick 86 (Out of Stock)

When you run out:

  1. In Menu: Toggle Available to OFF
  2. Via POS: Long-press item > 86 Item
  3. Via Voice: "Hey Maximus, 86 the salmon"

Effect:

  • Item grayed out for staff
  • Hidden from customers online
  • Removed from kiosk display

Un-86 (Back in Stock)

When item returns:

  1. In Menu: Toggle Available to ON
  2. Via Voice: "Hey Maximus, un-86 the salmon"

Scheduled Availability

Set time-based availability:

Breakfast Burrito

└── Auto-hide outside hours

Control where items appear:

Size Variants

Create size options:

Caesar Salad

Setup:

  1. Create item
  2. Add Variants for sizes
  3. Set price per variant
  4. Variants show as quick buttons on POS

Combo Items

Create meal deals:

Burger Combo
├── Includes: Burger (any)
├── Includes: Fries (regular)
├── Includes: Drink (medium)
├── Price: $15.99 (vs $18.97 separate)

Bulk Operations

Bulk Price Update

Update multiple prices:

  1. Select items (checkbox)
  2. Click Bulk Edit
  3. Choose action:
    • Set specific price
    • Increase by % or $
    • Decrease by % or $
  4. Preview changes
  5. Apply

Bulk Availability

Update multiple items:

  1. Select items
  2. Click Bulk Edit
  3. Toggle availability
  4. Apply to all

Import/Export

Export Menu:

  1. Go to Menu > Export
  2. Download CSV/Excel
  3. Edit externally

Import Menu:

  1. Go to Menu > Import
  2. Upload modified file
  3. Preview changes
  4. Confirm import

Description Best Practices

tip

Write descriptions that sell. "Hand-breaded chicken tenders served with honey mustard and ranch dipping sauces, with seasoned fries" converts far better than "Chicken tenders with fries." Descriptive language increases average order value.

Image Guidelines

  1. Use consistent style
  2. Show actual portions
  3. Good lighting
  4. Clean background
  5. Make it appetizing
